Devudu Chesina Manushulu (transl. God-Made Humans) is a 2012 Indian Telugu-language fantasy action comedy written and directed by Puri Jagannadh. It was produced by B. V. S. N. Prasad’s Sri Venkateswara Cine Chitra with Reliance Entertainment. It stars Ravi Teja, Ileana and Prakash Raj. Released on 14 August 2012 to mostly negative reviews, it failed at the box office.
Story
To console Lakshmi, who is upset that he gave her no birthday present, Vishnu shows her a love story between two orphans. One is a settlement broker in Hyderabad and the other a taxi driver in Bangkok. A banana peel dropped on a road sets off a chain of events involving a police inspector and an absent-minded Bangkok don, and the broker ends up flying to Bangkok, where the two meet.
Production
The film was the fifth collaboration between Ravi Teja and Puri Jagannadh, after films such as Idiot and Neninthe, and Jagannadh’s third with Ileana. It was first planned as a sequel to Idiot, but Jagannadh dropped the idea as uninteresting. It borrowed its title from the 1973 hit starring N. T. Rama Rao and Krishna. The film was announced on 27 January 2012 and launched on 17 February 2012.
Filming
Shooting began at Ramoji Film City on 2 March 2012, and most of the film was completed in a single schedule that ended on 15 May. According to the unit, it took 35 days of regular shooting, 14 days for songs and 10 for action, and the whole film was done in about two months. Shyam K. Naidu was the cinematographer.
Music
Raghu Kunche composed the songs and score, with all lyrics by Bhaskarabhatla Ravi Kumar. Sony Music released the audio on 22 June 2012. It was well received, and Musicperk.com called it an album with a high dose of mass appeal.
Reception
123telugu.com gave it 2.25 out of 5 and called it a surprisingly poor offering from the actor–director pair. Oneindia recommended it only to hardcore Ravi Teja fans. According to the source, it collected ₹5.5 crore on its first day.
