Wikipedia says she was born on 16 June 1986 in Razole, East Godavari district, into a Telugu family, citing The Times of India. Wikidata gives a different date, 11 September 1986, citing a Czech film database. She went to school in Razole and later moved to Chennai, where she studied mathematics.
Career
After modelling, she was spotted by director Siva Nageswara Rao, who cast her in the Telugu thriller Photo (2006). Her breakthrough was Ram’s Tamil film Kattradhu Thamizh (2007). As Kani, a sales girl in a Chennai textile showroom, in Vasanthabalan’s Angadi Theru she won critical praise and her first Filmfare award, followed by a second for Engaeyum Eppothum. She also made her Malayalam debut in Payyans (2011).
Her Telugu career grew in 2013 with the multi-starrer Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu, with Venkatesh, Mahesh Babu and Samantha, in which she played Seetha and won a Nandi Special Jury Award. The same year she starred in Gopichand Malineni’s Balupu opposite Ravi Teja and in Masala, a remake of Bol Bachchan, again with Venkatesh. Geethanjali (2014) brought her the Nandi Award for Best Actress.
She starred in Dictator (2016) with Nandamuri Balakrishna, and her other Telugu films on our records include Sarainodu (2016) and the thriller Chitrangada (2017). In Venu Sriram’s Vakeel Saab (2021) she played Zarina. Her recent Telugu films are Geethanjali Malli Vachindi (2024), Gangs of Godavari (2024) and Game Changer (2025). In Tamil, the long-delayed Madha Gaja Raja, with Vishal, was released in 2025.
