Na Bangaaru Talli (transl. My Golden Girl) is the Telugu version of Ente, a 2013 social problem film written and directed by Rajesh Touchriver and made simultaneously in Telugu and Malayalam. Based on a real-life story, it stars Siddique, Anjali Patil, Lakshmi Menon, Neena Kurup and Rathna Shekar. It was co-produced by Touchriver and the anti-trafficking campaigner Sunitha Krishnan. It examines the consequences of sex trafficking and how easily trust can be broken. The film won three National Film Awards, including Best Feature Film in Telugu.

Story

Srinivas, a respected social worker from Amalapuram, is proud of his studious daughter Durga, who speaks out against crimes against women. He often goes to Hyderabad for work, though no one knows what he really does there. When Durga insists on moving to Hyderabad for further studies, he reluctantly takes her to the city. There his hidden life catches up with them and puts his daughter in grave danger.

Production

The film was made in Malayalam and Telugu at the same time. The Telugu version was originally titled Prathyayam. Shantanu Moitra composed the background score.

Release

The Malayalam version came out first. The Telugu version was released on 21 November 2014 with public funding. The film was shown at festivals including the Beijing International Film Festival, the Asia Pacific Screen Awards, the Indian Film Festival of Ireland and the 20th Kolkata International Film Festival.

Reception

The film was very well reviewed. The Hindu singled out the poignancy of its ending as reason enough to see it.
