Ananya Nagalla is an Indian actress who works in Telugu films. She made her debut in Mallesham (2019) and went on to appear in films such as Play Back (2021) and Vakeel Saab (2021). She won a Telangana Gaddar Film Award for her performance in Pottel (2024).

Early life

Nagalla was born in Sathupalli, in Khammam district, to Venkateswara Rao and Vishnu Priya. Her family moved to Hyderabad for her education. She earned a BTech at Raja Mahendra College of Engineering in Ibrahimpatnam and worked at Infosys before turning to films.

Debut in Mallesham

While still working, she acted in the short film Shaadi, which earned her a Best Actress nomination at the SIIMA Short Film Awards. She was then cast through an audition in the 2019 biopic Mallesham, opposite Priyadarshi, and was credited under her birth name, Anusha Nagalla. She took a break from work to prepare for the role of Padma, Mallesham’s wife. The Indian Express, The News Minute and The Hindu all praised the innocence she brought to the part and called it a promising debut.

Play Back

In 2021 she appeared in the science-fiction drama Play Back, where one reviewer said she stood out among the cast.

Vakeel Saab

The same year she was cast in Pawan Kalyan‘s Vakeel Saab, a remake of the Hindi film Pink, because of her work in Mallesham. The Hindu and Deccan Chronicle both singled out her performance, and The Hindu praised the mix of courage, fear and despair she conveyed.

Lead roles

In 2024 she played the protagonist in Tantra, and Times Now praised her captivating screen presence. Her performance in Pottel (2024) won her a Telangana Gaddar Film Award.
