Priyadarshi Pulikonda is an Indian actor and comedian who works in Telugu films. He first gained wide recognition for his role in Pelli Choopulu (2016). Alongside his supporting work, he has played the lead in films such as Mallesham (2019), Mithai (2019) and Balagam (2023). Film Companion included his performance in Mallesham in its list of the 100 greatest performances of the decade.
Early life and education
Priyadarshi was born in Khammam to Pulikonda Subbachary, a professor, and Jayalakshmi. The family moved to Hyderabad when he was 2 years old. They lived in the Old City until he was 10 and then settled in Gachibowli. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Statistics from MNR Degree & PG College. He then completed a postgraduate degree in Mass Communication at the University of Hyderabad.
Influences
In an interview with The Hindu, Priyadarshi said that watching Sagara Sangamam made him want to become an actor, and he described the film as a turning point. He has named Chiranjeevi and Kamal Haasan among the actors he admires, and K. Balachander, K. Viswanath and Singeetam Srinivasa Rao among the directors.
Early roles
He played a terrorist in Terror (2016), a film that was well received by critics. His real breakthrough came the same year as Kaushik in the romantic comedy Pelli Choopulu. That film was praised for its story, its performances and its clean humour, and his use of the Telangana dialect drew particular appreciation. He also appeared in several short films.
Mainstream films
Priyadarshi went on to appear in large Telugu productions. These include Jai Lava Kusa, starring N. T. Rama Rao Jr., and Spyder, the Mahesh Babu film directed by A. R. Murugadoss.
Lead roles and streaming
He moved into leading parts with Mallesham and Mithai in 2019, followed by Balagam in 2023. On streaming, he played a rifle shooter in the web series Loser, and critics appreciated that performance too.
