Akhil Akkineni is an Indian actor in Telugu cinema, the son of Nagarjuna and Amala and the grandson of Akkineni Nageswara Rao. He first appeared as a baby in Sisindri (1995), made his lead debut in Akhil (2015), and had his biggest successes with Most Eligible Bachelor (2021) and Lenin (2026).
He was born on 8 April 1994 in San Jose, California, according to Wikipedia, citing The Times of India; Wikidata gives the same date and place. Naga Chaitanya is his half-brother. He studied at Chaitanya Vidyalaya and Oakridge International School in Hyderabad, spent two years in Australia, took an acting course at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York (The Hindu) and holds a BBA from the University of South Florida.
Career
As an infant he appeared in his father’s production Sisindri, an adaptation of Baby’s Day Out, which brought him a Filmfare Special Award. A keen cricketer, he played for the Telugu Warriors in the Celebrity Cricket League from 2011. In Vikram Kumar’s Manam (2014), which featured three generations of the Akkineni family, his cameo in the climax was popular with audiences.
His first lead film, V. V. Vinayak’s Akhil, opposite Sayesha Saigal, won him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut – South but failed at the box office. Vikram Kumar’s Hello (2017) drew generally positive reviews but was a below-average grosser, and Mr. Majnu (2019), with Niddhi Agerwal, also failed commercially. Most Eligible Bachelor, directed by Bhaskar and co-starring Pooja Hegde, gave him his first hit in October 2021. Surender Reddy’s Agent (2023) received highly negative reviews and was a commercial disaster. His next film, Lenin, opened to decent reviews and became the biggest success of his career.
