B. V. Nandini Reddy is an Indian film director and screenwriter who works in Telugu cinema and television. She debuted with Ala Modalaindi (2011), which won her the Nandi Award for Best First Film of a Director and the SIIMA Award for Best Debut Director, and later directed Oh! Baby (2019) with Samantha Ruth Prabhu.
Early life
Nandini Reddy was born in Hyderabad. Her father, Bharath V. Reddy, is a chartered accountant from Chittoor district, and her mother, Roopa Reddy, is from Warangal district; she has a younger brother, Uttam. She went to St. Ann’s High School, Secunderabad, and Women’s College, Koti, and earned a master’s in political science from Jawaharlal Nehru University. She was active in drama, elocution and cricket as a student.
Assistant director
Through a friend she met Gangaraju Gunnam and worked as an assistant director on his children’s film Little Soldiers (1995). Krishna Vamsi initially turned her away, and after a year out of work she was offered the Kannada film Santhi Santhi Santhi. Ramya Krishnan then persuaded Vamsi to take her on for Chandralekha (1998), and she remained part of his team until Murari (2001) and the Hindi Shakti. Vamsi later sent her to D. Suresh Babu, and she worked with Suresh Productions.
Director
Ala Modalaindi, her first film, also won the Hyderabad Times award for Best Screenplay and a Filmfare nomination for Best Director.
Oh! Baby
Her fourth film, Oh! Baby, produced by People’s Media, Guru Films and Suresh Productions, was her second with Samantha and brought her a SIIMA nomination for Best Director.
Television
Reddy also works in television and has served as a judge on the Telugu reality show Adhurs.
