Naga Shaurya (born 22 January 1989) is an Indian actor and producer who works in Telugu films. He made his debut in Cricket, Girls and Beer (2011). His breakthrough came in 2014 with the romantic comedy Oohalu Gusagusalade. He went on to become a leading man with films such as Kalyana Vaibhogame, Jyo Achyutananda, Chalo and Aswathama. He also runs the production house Ira Creations.
Early life
Shaurya was born in Godavari, Andhra Pradesh, and spent several years in Vijayawada. He played tennis before moving to Hyderabad to try for a career in films. He struggled for almost five years before landing his first role. His parents, Shankar Prasad and Usha Prasad, are partners in his production company.
Breakthrough (2011–2015)
After a first screen appearance in Cricket, Girls and Beer, Shaurya answered a casting call from Vaaraahi Chalana Chitram for Srinivas Avasarala‘s Oohalu Gusagusalade and won the lead role. While making it, he was also cast in the ensemble of the anthology film Chandamama Kathalu, which won a National Award and was released first. Oohalu Gusagusalade, opposite Raashi Khanna, came out two months later and was a critical and commercial success. Deccan Chronicle praised his fresh, easy performance as Venky. He followed it with Dikkulu Choodaku Ramayya, a love triangle in which a father and son fall for the same woman. The Hindu called him one of the best of the newer actors. He also appeared in Lakshmi Raave Maa Intiki opposite Avika Gor and in Jadoogadu (2015).
Rise as a leading actor (2016–2021)
Shaurya released five films in 2016. Two of them were commercial successes: B. V. Nandini Reddy‘s Kalyana Vaibhogame and Avasarala’s Jyo Achyutananda, opposite Regina Cassandra. Critics singled out his nuanced work in the second. After a cameo in Kathalo Rajakumari (2017), he had a hit with Chalo (2018), opposite Rashmika Mandanna. His other 2018 releases, including Nartanasala, failed. In 2019 he had a small role in the successful fantasy comedy Oh! Baby with Samantha Ruth Prabhu. The action thriller Aswathama (2020), with Mehreen Pirzada, was profitable, and Firstpost said he had successfully remade himself as an action hero. In 2021, Varudu Kaavalenu had an average run, while Lakshya, for which he transformed physically, did poorly.
Recent career (2022–present)
Shaurya’s recent films have struggled at the box office. Krishna Vrinda Vihari (2022) failed, though The Hindu praised his spirited performance. In 2023, Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammayi and Rangabali drew mixed to positive reviews but were both commercial disappointments. Bad Boy Karthik, directed by Ramesh Desina, was released on 17 April 2026 and also failed at the box office.
Ira Creations and other work
Shaurya set up Ira Creations, and with his mother, Usha Mulpuri, it produced Chalo as its first film. He has since co-produced Nartanasala, Aswathama and Krishna Vrinda Vihari. Outside films, he donated to the family of a soldier killed in Jammu and Kashmir, and he ran a salon on Lakshmi Manchu’s show Memu Saitham to raise money for a farmer’s family. Hyderabad Times placed him 10th on its Most Desirable Men list in 2016 and 5th in 2020.
