Andrea Jeremiah (born 21 December 1985) is an Indian actress and singer who works mainly in Tamil films. She began as a playback singer with “Kannum Kannum Nokia” in Anniyan before making her acting debut in Pachaikili Muthucharam (2007). Her successful films include Vishwaroopam (2013), Aranmanai (2014), Taramani (2017) and Vada Chennai (2018), and Telugu audiences saw her in Tadakha (2013). She has received several Filmfare Awards South nominations.
Early life
Andrea was born in Arakkonam, Tamil Nadu, and grew up near Chennai; her father is a lawyer at the Madras High Court. She studied at St. Joseph’s Anglo-Indian Higher Secondary School in Perambur and at Women’s Christian College, where she was president of the student senate. She learned classical piano from the age of eight and at ten joined a singing troupe called Young Stars. In college she acted in plays staged by The Madras Players and EVAM and set up her own company, TSMGO Productions, to promote live art. She has said that she turned down every film offer she received as a student.
Music
Andrea has said that music was always her main focus and that acting came by chance. She began playback singing for films in 2005 and has recorded songs for composers including Harris Jayaraj, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Anirudh Ravichander, Thaman, Devi Sri Prasad and G. V. Prakash Kumar, earning nominations at the Filmfare and Vijay Awards. She also composes and produces her own music; for Taramani she composed, wrote and sang the promotional single “Soul of Taramani”.
Acting debut
After she sang for Gautham Vasudev Menon’s Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu, the director cast her as one of the leads of Pachaikili Muthucharam, an adaptation of James Siegel’s novel Derailed, in which she played a homemaker named Kalyani. She followed it with Selvaraghavan’s Aayirathil Oruvan (2010) and a supporting part in Venkat Prabhu’s hit Mankatha (2011).
Leading roles
Her Malayalam debut, Rajeev Ravi’s romance Annayum Rasoolum (2013), opposite Fahadh Faasil, was a commercial success that she has called the best film of her career. Sundar C’s Aranmanai (2014) became her breakthrough as a female lead, and Loham (2015), her first film with Mohanlal, was also a success. She appeared in Kamal Haasan’s Vishwaroopam and its 2018 sequel.
In Ram’s Taramani (2017) she played a single mother, Althiya, opposite Vasanth Ravi, and the film was a box-office success that brought her strong reviews; the character is considered one of the most memorable women in Tamil cinema.
Recent work
In 2021 she appeared in Master and led Aranmanai 3, a commercial hit despite largely negative reviews. Her performance in the crime drama Anel Meley Pani Thuli (2022) is regarded as one of her finest, and in 2025 she produced and starred in Mask, alongside Kavin.
