Pranitha Subhash (born 17 October 1992) is an Indian actress who works in Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Hindi and Malayalam films. Her other commercial successes include Baava (2010), Masss (2015) and Hello Guru Prema Kosame (2018).
Debut and early films
Pranitha’s first film was Porki (2010), opposite Darshan. After its success she became selective, turning down several Kannada offers before signing the Telugu love story Baava, opposite Siddharth, in which her portrayal of a village girl was widely praised. She then made her Tamil debut in Udhayan, and followed it with Saguni, opposite Karthi, which was released in Tamil and Telugu in a record 1,150 theatres worldwide.
Breakthrough in Kannada
Opposite Duniya Vijay she appeared in Jarasandha and in Bheema Theeradalli, a film based on the real-life story of a Naxalite. Critics praised her as Bheemavva, and the role brought her a Filmfare nomination and a Santosham award. The Kannada film Whistle earned her a SIIMA nomination.
Attarintiki Daredi and later Telugu films
She was one of the leading actresses of Trivikram Srinivas‘s Attarintiki Daredi, alongside Pawan Kalyan and Samantha. Released in September 2013, it became, according to the film’s own article, the highest-grossing Telugu film up to that time, with earnings of over ₹131 crore, and it brought her several award nominations.
Around the same time she starred opposite Upendra in the Kannada film Brahma and opposite Manchu Manoj in Pandavulu Pandavulu Thummeda, both of which did well. She went on to appear in Masss, opposite Suriya, in Dynamite, opposite Manchu Vishnu, and in Brahmotsavam, with Mahesh Babu.
Education, endorsements and business
In December 2020 she completed an executive education programme in professional and leadership development at Harvard Kennedy School. She has endorsed a range of jewellery, textile and retail brands, was brand ambassador for the Karnataka Bulldozers in the Celebrity Cricket League in 2013, and co-owns a restaurant, Bootlegger, on Lavelle Road in Bangalore.
Philanthropy
Pranitha has worked to improve government schools in Karnataka, adopting schools and helping to upgrade their buildings and sanitation; she and a group of volunteers refurbished an ageing school in Hassan district, and she contributed US$10,000 to the cause. In April 2019 the Election Commission named her a “State Icon”, alongside Rahul Dravid, to encourage voting in Karnataka.
Personal life
She married the businessman Nitin Raju on 30 May 2021. They have a daughter and a son.
