Thank You

Thank You is a 2022 Telugu romantic drama directed by Vikram Kumar from a story by B. V. S. Ravi, produced by Dil Raju and Sirish under Sri Venkateswara Creations. Naga Chaitanya plays a self-made tech entrepreneur, with Raashii Khanna, Malavika Nair and Avika Gor as the women at three stages of his life. Thaman S composed the music. It was released in cinemas on 22 July 2022.

What the story is about

Abhi came to New York from India in 2011 through a consultancy run by a man called Rao, where he met Priya. Against Rao’s advice he built a health app, Ydhya, with Priya’s savings behind him, and over the next decade it grew into a worldwide success. But success has made Abhi self-centred and arrogant, and he has pushed away almost everyone, including Priya, who will not marry the man he has become.

When a crisis forces him to see what he has turned into, Abhi’s conscience sets him on a journey back through his past, to his village in 2003 and his college years in Visakhapatnam, to remember, and thank, the people who helped make him who he is.

Making and release

The film was announced in August 2020 and launched with a pooja ceremony that October. Shooting was expected to start around Dussehra but began on 21 December 2020. It was first scheduled for 8 July 2022 and pushed to 22 July because of post-production delays.

Reviews and box office

Most critics were disappointed. Ram Venkat Srikar of Cinema Express was the kindest, at 3 out of 5, finding it “oversimplified yet heartfelt”. The Times of India and India Today gave 2.5, the latter wishing Vikram Kumar had concentrated more on the screenplay. The News Minute gave 2, saying it “excels” visually but the writing is superficial, and Sangeetha Devi Dundoo of The Hindu felt it “begins on a promising note” but withers away.

Commercially it was a failure. The Indian Express reported on 25 July 2022 that it had collected only ₹3 crore worldwide, and India Today called it the biggest flop of 2022 in a day-four report.

Where to watch Thank You

Amazon Prime Video and Sun NXT acquired the digital rights, and the film premiered on Prime Video on 11 August 2022, according to Wikipedia. We have not checked a current listing, so availability may differ.
