Saloni Aswani (often credited as Saloni) is an Indian actress and model who works mainly in Telugu and Kannada films. She is best known for S. S. Rajamouli’s Maryada Ramanna (2010), in which she played the female lead opposite Sunil, and for Bodyguard (2012), which won her the SIIMA Award for Best Supporting Actress – Telugu.
Wikipedia says she was born as Vandana into a Sindhi family in Ulhasnagar, Maharashtra, but gives no birth date. Wikidata lists two dates, 1 June 1977 and 1 June 1987, so her birth year is not settled. Her family moved to Wadala, Mumbai, when she was about five, and she graduated in psychology from SNDT Women’s University. She modelled in television advertisements before acting.
Career
She debuted in the Hindi film Dil Pardesi Ho Gayaa (2003), whose director renamed her Saloni. Her first Telugu films, Dhana 51 and Oka Oorilo (2005), were commercial failures. In 2006 she had five releases, including the Telugu films Chukkallo Chandrudu and Kokila, the Hindi film Saawan… The Love Season, and a song in Boss. She gained notice with the Kannada film Buddhivantha (2008).
A cameo in Rajamouli’s Magadheera (2009) led him to cast her as the heroine of Maryada Ramanna, a musical comedy that received positive reviews. In 2012 she played Swathi in Bodyguard with Venkatesh and Trisha, and appeared opposite Balakrishna in Adhinayakudu. She played Swetha in Race Gurram (2014) and Samantha in Meelo Evaru Koteeswarudu (2016). After a gap she returned as Rajeshwari in Tantra and as Padma in Matka (2024); our records also list her in Harudu (2026).
