Varun Sandesh (Jeedigunta Varun Sandesh, born 21 July 1989) is an Indian actor who works mainly in Telugu cinema. He made his debut in Sekhar Kammula’s hit coming-of-age drama Happy Days (2007) and followed it with the blockbuster Kotha Bangaru Lokam (2008). His other films include D for Dopidi (2013), Pandavulu Pandavulu Tummeda (2014) and Nindha (2024). In 2019 he reached the finale of Bigg Boss Telugu 3.
Early life
Varun Sandesh was born in Rayagada, Odisha, lived in Hyderabad for four years, and was educated in Bridgewater Township, New Jersey, in the United States. He is the grandson of the Telugu writer Jeedigunta Ramachandra Murthy, and his sister, Veena Sahithi, has worked as a singer and lyricist.
Happy Days
With no acting experience and plans to study medicine, he answered an online casting call for a Sekhar Kammula film in 2007. He filmed himself acting out a scene and sent the clips in, and he won a lead role in Happy Days. The film, made almost entirely with newcomers, was a major critical and commercial success and won six Filmfare Awards South and three Nandi Awards.
Kotha Bangaru Lokam
The romantic drama Kotha Bangaru Lokam (2008) was acclaimed and one of the year’s biggest hits.
Later films
After that, films such as Kurradu (2009), a remake of Polladhavan, and Maro Charitra (2010) did poorly. Through the 2010s his only successes were Yemaindi Ee Vela (2010), D for Dopidi and Pandavulu Pandavulu Tummeda.
Television
In 2019 he became a well-known television personality on Star Maa’s Bigg Boss Telugu 3, reaching the grand finale and finishing fourth. He is also a brand ambassador for the Kalanjali store in Andhra Pradesh.
