Gopichand Malineni (born 13 March 1980) is an Indian film director and screenwriter who works in Telugu cinema. After years as an assistant director, he debuted with the action comedy Don Seenu (2010) and went on to direct Bodyguard, Balupu, Pandaga Chesko, Winner, Krack and Jaat.

Early life

Malineni was born and grew up in Boddulurivaripalem village near Ongole, Prakasam district. He studied at Sarada Niketan School and VR College in Nellore, leaving education in class 12 to enter films, with the support of his friends and family.

Assistant years

He began as a camera assistant on ETV programmes in Warangal, then on the film Hello I Love You. Moving into direction, he assisted on four films with Srihari, two with E. V. V. Satyanarayana, and on Srinu Vaitla‘s Venky and Dhee, A. R. Murugadoss’s Stalin, Sriwass‘s Lakshyam, and Meher Ramesh’s Kantri and Billa.

Director

His debut, Don Seenu, with Ravi Teja and Shriya Saran, was one of the biggest hits of 2010. He directed Venkatesh and Trisha in Bodyguard (2012), and reunited with Ravi Teja for Balupu, released on 28 June 2013 with Shruti Haasan, a well-reviewed hit seen as Ravi Teja’s comeback. Pandaga Chesko, with Ram Pothineni and Rakul Preet Singh, was another hit, while Winner (2017), with Sai Dharam Tej, failed.

Krack

His third film with Ravi Teja, Krack (2021), was a major success, and his son, Satvik, made his debut in it as a child actor.

Personal life

Malineni married Sri Satya on 14 February 2013. He has also made cameos in films including Lakshyam and Winner.
