Veera Simha Reddy is a 2023 Indian Telugu-language action drama written and directed by Gopichand Malineni and produced by Mythri Movie Makers. Nandamuri Balakrishna plays a dual role, with Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Shruti Haasan, Honey Rose and Duniya Vijay. It was released on 12 January 2023 for Sankranti, clashing with Waltair Veerayya. Reviews were largely negative, but according to the source the film grossed ₹134 crore worldwide.
Story
In Istanbul, Jai Simha Reddy runs a car dealership and lives with his mother Meenakshi, who owns a restaurant serving Rayalaseema food. Jai falls for Isha, a struggling singer. When the families meet to discuss marriage, Meenakshi reveals that Jai’s father is Veera Simha Reddy, a powerful and respected leader from Anantapuram who has worked to end factional violence in Rayalaseema. That revelation pulls the story back to Veera’s own world of feuds and rivals.
Cast
Balakrishna plays both Veera Simha Reddy and his son Jai. Shruti Haasan plays the female lead opposite him. Kannada actor Duniya Vijay plays the main antagonist, and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar has an important role. Honey Rose also appears.
Production
Reports of Malineni teaming up with Balakrishna first appeared in January 2021. The film was officially announced on Balakrishna’s birthday that June under the working title NBK107, with Naveen Yerneni and Y. Ravi Shankar producing. A muhurtam ceremony was held in Hyderabad in November. Filming began on 18 February 2022 in Sircilla and ended in December, and the title Veera Simha Reddy was unveiled in October 2022.
Music
Thaman S composed the songs and score. Four singles were released ahead of the film: “Jai Balayya”, “Suguna Sundari”, “Maa Bava Manobhavalu” and “Mass Mogudu”.
Release
According to the source, the theatrical rights were sold for ₹73 crore. The film came out on 12 January 2023. It began streaming on JioHotstar on 23 February 2023 and was first shown on television on Star Maa on 23 April 2023.
Reception and box office

According to the source, the film opened with more than ₹54 crore worldwide, Balakrishna’s biggest opening at the time. It ended its run at ₹134 crore worldwide, with a distributors’ share of ₹79.82 crore.
