10th Class Diaries is a 2022 Indian Telugu-language coming-of-age romantic comedy directed and shot by Garudavega Anji, his debut as a director, from a story by Vennela Ramarao. It stars Sriram, Avika Gor, Srinivasa Reddy, Ramarao, Himaja and Archana. The film was released in theatres on 1 July 2022.
Story
Somu, a wealthy NRI living in the US, returns to India for a reunion with his old school friends. When his childhood sweetheart Chandini fails to show up, he sets out to find her. The film centres on the reunion of a group of 10th standard classmates.
Production
Production began in early 2021. Anji and Sriram had planned to work together on a Tamil film but made this one instead. It is based on an event from the life of producer Achut Ramarao. The film is Anji’s first as a director and his 50th as a cinematographer. Avika Gor plays a character older than herself.
Filming locations
The film was shot in Chikmagalur, Hyderabad, Rajahmundry, Sri Lanka and the United States.
Music
The music was composed by S. Chinna.
Release and reception
The film was first scheduled for 4 March 2022, moved to 24 June, and finally released on 1 July 2022. Reviews were mixed. The Times of India liked its light humour, its feel for young love, its livelier second half and the performances. NTV praised the story and cinematography but found the screenplay and music weak. Sakshi felt that Anji had largely succeeded with his debut, and Asianet News Telugu described the film as a trip down memory lane. ABP Desam was the harshest, rating it 1 out of 5 and calling the screenplay a test of patience.
