7

Seven is a 2019 Indian mystery thriller directed and shot by Nizar Shafi and produced by Ramesh Varma. Made simultaneously in Telugu and Tamil, it stars Havish, Rahman, Nandita Swetha and Regina Cassandra. It drew largely negative reviews.

Story

ACP Vijay Prakash is baffled while investigating a mysterious man named Karthik. Several young women come forward, each claiming Karthik is her missing husband. An old man from an asylum insists he knew Karthik as Krishnamurthy, a man who died 30 years ago. As the claims pile up and contradict each other, the police struggle to establish who Karthik really is.

Production

The film began as a Telugu production and became a bilingual when producer M. S. Sharavanan showed interest in a Tamil version. Havish asked the makers to cast another actor in the Tamil version because he was not fluent in the language, but they wanted him to do both.

Music

Chaitan Bharadwaj composed the music.

Release

After its theatrical run, the film became available on Netflix in August 2019.

Reception

The Times of India and Cinema Express both gave it 2 out of 5. They said an interesting premise and a promising first half were undone by a weak screenplay and logical holes. TV9 Telugu liked the story, cinematography and twists but faulted the screenplay, and Sakshi said the story was interesting but fell flat on screen. Tamil reviewers were similarly critical. Samayam noted dubbing problems in the Tamil version and singled out Rahman and Regina Cassandra’s performances as the only relief.
