Jyo Achyutananda is a 2016 Indian Telugu-language comedy drama written and directed by Srinivas Avasarala and produced by Sai Korrapati under Vaaraahi Chalana Chitram. It stars Nara Rohit, Naga Shaurya and Regina Cassandra. Released on 9 September 2016, it was well reviewed and, according to the source, opened well at the box office.

Story

Achyuth and Anand are brothers who don’t get along because of their egos but play the loving siblings in front of others. During a quarrel at a party, they let slip in front of their wives that they once had an issue over Jyo, the daughter of their elderly tenant upstairs. Each brother then blames the other, and their shared past with Jyo comes back to test their relationship.

Cast

  • Nara Rohit as Achyuta Rama Rao “Achyuth”
  • Naga Shaurya as Ananda Vardan Rao “Anand”
  • Regina Cassandra as Jyothsna “Jyo”

Production and music

It was Avasarala’s second film as director after Oohalu Gusagusalade (2014), which also starred Naga Shaurya. Kalyan Koduri composed the songs and score in his second film with the director, and Bhaskara Bhatla wrote all the lyrics. Avasarala won the Nandi Award for Best Dialogue Writer for the film.

Themes

Its theme of brotherhood drew comparisons with Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu, though the film takes a comic approach largely free of tear-jerking scenes.

Reception

Critics praised the first half more than the second. The Hindu gave it 3.5 out of 5 and called it a fulfilling emotional ride about two brothers that avoids the expected love triangle. The Indian Express and The Times of India gave it 3, the latter calling it a feel-good film slightly hurt by unclear narration. Deccan Chronicle praised its hilarious first half.
