Dear Megha is a 2021 Telugu romantic drama directed by Sushanth Reddy, starring Megha Akash, Adith Arun and Arjun Somayajula. A remake of the 2020 Kannada film Dia, it tells a love triangle that turns on loss and second chances. It was released in cinemas on 3 September 2021.

What the story is about

Megha takes three years to tell Arjun how she feels about him, and soon afterwards he dies in a terrible accident. Later, as she begins a new life with Aadi, she learns that Arjun is still alive. The film follows what that discovery does to all three of them.

Cast and crew

  • Megha Akash as Megha Swaroop “Soup”
  • Adith Arun as Aadi
  • Arjun Somayajula as Arjun
  • Pavitra Lokesh as Aadi’s mother
  • Ananda Chakrapani as Megha’s father

Director: Sushanth Reddy. Producer: Arjun Dasyan for Vedaansh Creative Works. Music: Gowra Hari. Runtime: 121 minutes.

Making the film

Dear Megha was launched with a muhurat shot on 10 December 2020 and filmed in just 28 days, wrapping in February 2021. Locations included the Gateway of India in Mumbai and Pernem railway station in Goa, where the unit shot for four days. Pavitra Lokesh played the same role she had in the Kannada original.

The first single, “Aamani Unte”, came out on 16 July 2021. Reviewing the album for Telangana Today, Prakash Pecheti wrote that Sid Sriram’s voice and Gowra Hari’s music “would probably be the best work that a film like ‘Dear Megha’ could get”.

Release and reviews

In August 2021 the film was reported to be heading straight to streaming, but the makers then announced a theatrical release for 3 September 2021.

Reviews were mixed. The Times of India gave it three out of five, calling it a faithful, well-shot remake that would leave viewers disturbed, “just what the makers intended”. Murali Krishna CH of The New Indian Express found it “a not so efficient remake of Dia”, though he praised Megha Akash’s performance and the score. Y Sunita Chowdhary of The Hindu thought the film was neither great nor bad.
