Chal Mohan Ranga (transl. Go Ahead, Mohan Ranga) is a 2018 Indian Telugu-language romantic comedy directed by Krishna Chaitanya. It was produced by Sudhakar Reddy with Pawan Kalyan and Trivikram Srinivas, who also wrote the story. It stars Nithiin and Megha Akash, with Madhunandan, Rao Ramesh, Naresh and Lissy in supporting roles. Released on 5 April 2018 to mixed reviews, it was, according to the source, a commercial failure.
Story
Mohan Ranga is an independent young man in Hyderabad who longs to go to the USA. He finally gets there in an unusual way, by escorting a dead body. In America he meets Megha on his way to a sponsorship interview, and the two fall in love, only to discover they have known each other before.
Cast
Nithiin plays Mohan Ranga, opposite Megha Akash. Lissy made her comeback in a supporting role after a 27-year break.
Crew and music
Natty Subramaniam was the cinematographer. S. Thaman composed the score and the six songs. The trailer was released on 13 March 2018.
Release
The film opened on 5 April 2018. Critics praised the performances, music and comedy but found the story thin and the narration flat.
Reception
The Times of India gave it 2.5 out of 5 and called it an aimless but time-pass ride that needed a better story. Deccan Chronicle, also at 2.5, found the first half entertaining and the climax a saving grace. Hindustan Times gave it 2, saying its clichés were only bearable because of the comedy. Firstpost, also at 2, was the harshest, calling it a soul-sucking experience for a romantic drama.
