Garividi Lakshmi

Garividi Lakshmi is a 2026 Telugu biographical musical drama about the North Andhra (Uttarandhra) burra katha and folk singer Garividi Lakshmi, with Anandhi in the title role. It is the first film of director Gowri Naidu Jammu (also credited as Gauri Naidu Jammu), produced by Krithi Prasad and T. G. Vishwa Prasad’s People Media Factory, and it opened in theatres on 17 October 2026, in the Dasara season.

What the story is about

The film follows a young filmmaker, Rajesh, who sets out to trace a singer the public has forgotten, and pieces her life together through the people who knew her. Set in Garividi village in Vizianagaram district, it moves from her childhood, a marriage at a young age that falls apart and her first steps in burra katha, to her sudden fame as a stage performer, and then to the betrayals that take away her recognition. The reviews describe it as a rise-and-fall story told with the songs she made popular.

Music and crew

Charan Arjun composed the music. The album mixes his own songs with Lakshmi’s folk numbers; Cinema Express notes that “Nallajeelakarra Mogga” and “Kosini Koyagura” were popular as private songs before the film used them. Aditya Javvadi is the cinematographer and Baby Suresh Bhimagani the art director. Anandhi told Cinema Express that she worked on the film for nearly two years.

What critics said

The Hindu called it a compelling biopic with a strong story and rooted music, singled out Anandhi and Rag Mayur, and felt its old-school treatment and a familiar rise-fall-redemption template limit its appeal. The New Indian Express described it as an emotional tale of a forgotten folk artiste and praised the casting, Charan Arjun’s songs and the period recreation, while noting that the narration could have been tighter. Telugu360 found the North Andhra dialogue authentic and the narration plain.
