Sairam Shankar (Petla Sairam Shankar) is a Telugu film actor and the younger brother of the director and producer Puri Jagannadh. He began his acting career as a lead in 143 (2004) and went on to films such as Danger, Neninthe and Bumper Offer. Wikidata gives Visakhapatnam district as his birthplace.
From assistant director to actor
He started in films in his brother’s direction department, joining Puri Jagannadh as an assistant director in 1997 and working on Badri, Bachi, Itlu Sravani Subramanyam, Idiot, Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi and Sivamani. He had a small role in Idiot and trained at the Satyanand Film Institute in Visakhapatnam, according to Wikipedia.
Puri Jagannadh cast him as the lead in 143 (2004), which he produced and directed. The film opened to mixed reviews; Sairam’s performance was well received but his dubbing voice was criticised, according to Idlebrain’s review. He was one of three leads, with Allari Naresh, in Krishna Vamsi‘s Danger (2005), which was not a box-office success. He played a dual role in Hello Premistara (2007). His first success came in 2009 with Bumper Offer, directed by Jaya Ravindra and written and produced by Puri Jagannadh, with Bindu Madhavi; Vade Kavali followed the same year. He later starred in Yamaho Yama (2012) and Romeo (2014), which Puri Jagannadh wrote.
