Allari Naresh (born Edara Naresh, 30 June 1986) is an Indian actor and film producer who works mainly in Telugu films. Known above all for comedy, he has starred in over 55 films and won two Filmfare Awards South, a Nandi Award and a SIIMA Award. His successes include Allari (2001), Kithakithalu (2006), Gamyam (2008), Sudigadu (2012), Maharshi (2019) and Naandhi (2021).
Early life
Naresh is the younger son of the veteran director and producer E. V. V. Satyanarayana; the family comes from Korumamidi village in West Godavari district. Born in Chennai, he went to Chettinad Vidyashram there before moving to Hyderabad. He speaks Telugu, Tamil, Hindi and English, and took the name “Allari” from the success of his first film.
Debut and early years
He debuted in Ravi Babu‘s adult comedy Allari, playing an infatuated 18-year-old; critics praised his natural timing and the film did very well. Thotti Gang and Maa Alludu Very Good were hits, and although Nenu, in which he played a disturbed young man, failed, it is considered one of his finest performances. After a lean spell, Kithakithalu was a blockbuster and Athili Sattibabu LKG made him a household name in Telugu films.
Gamyam and a busy run
In 2008 he had eight releases. In Krish‘s Gamyam, with Sharwanand, he played Gali Seenu, a motorcycle thief whose actions change the hero; the role won him the Nandi and Filmfare awards for Best Supporting Actor. Hits that followed included Blade Babji (2008), Bendu Apparao R.M.P (2009), Shambo Shiva Shambo with Ravi Teja, and Aha Naa Pellanta (2011), one of the few Telugu successes of that year.
Spoofs and landmark films
Sudigadu (2012), a spoof of nearly 100 Telugu films, was a major success, as was Yamudiki Mogudu. He led Action 3D (2013), the first Indian 3D comedy in Telugu, played an obese man in Laddu Babu (2014) and a dual role in Jump Jilani. His 50th film was Mama Manchu Alludu Kanchu (2015), with Mohan Babu.
Recent work
He co-starred with Mahesh Babu in Vamshi Paidipally‘s Maharshi (2019), which the source says grossed over ₹175 crore. Naandhi (2021) was a critical and commercial success, and he later starred in Aa Okkati Adakku (2024). He also produces films with his brother, Aryan Rajesh, under E. V. V. Cinema. He married the architect Virupa Kantamaneni in 2015, and they have a daughter.
