Story

Anvitha Ravali Shetty, a 38-year-old chef in the UK, has lost faith in marriage after watching her parents’ relationship fail. Alone after losing her mother, she decides she wants a child but not a husband. She chooses IVF but is uneasy about anonymous donors, so she sets out to find a suitable donor herself, interviewing candidates with the help of her friend Kavya.

Development

In March 2021 it was revealed that UV Creations was planning a film pairing Anushka with Naveen, about an older woman who falls for a younger man. The title was revealed later. The film marked Anushka’s return to a lead role after Bhaagamathie and Nishabdham.

Crew and music

Nirav Shah was the cinematographer and Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao the editor. Radhan composed the songs and Gopi Sundar the background score.

Release

Originally scheduled for 4 August 2023, the film was delayed by post-production work. It opened on 7 September 2023 with Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada dubbed versions, and Netflix acquired the streaming rights. According to the source, it started slowly but went on to become a big success.

Reception

Critics especially praised the two leads. India Today gave it 3.5 out of 5 and called it a feel-good romantic drama that hits all the right notes. The Times of India and Cinema Express gave it 2.5, enjoying it as a sweet, simple romcom. Like The Hindu, they felt it needed more emotional weight.
