Waltair Veerayya is a 2023 Indian Telugu-language action comedy directed by Bobby Kolli (K. S. Ravindra) and produced by Mythri Movie Makers. Chiranjeevi plays the title role, alongside Ravi Teja, Shruti Haasan, Catherine Tresa, Prakash Raj, Bobby Simha and Vennela Kishore. It was released for Sankranti on 13 January 2023 and, according to the source, became the third highest-grossing Telugu film of that year.
Story
Waltair Veerayya is a notorious smuggler. He is hired to capture Solomon Caesar, a violent drug lord who has escaped custody and is hiding in Malaysia, and to bring him back to India. The mission soon uncovers a deeper personal feud tied to Veerayya’s past and to his late half-brother Vikram Sagar, an upright IPS officer played by Ravi Teja.
Cast
- Chiranjeevi as Waltair Veerayya
- Ravi Teja as Vikram Sagar IPS
- Shruti Haasan, paired opposite Chiranjeevi
- Catherine Tresa, as Ravi Teja’s wife
- Bobby Simha and Prakash Raj in villainous roles

Production
Chiranjeevi and Bobby announced the project in August 2021 under the working title Mega154, as it was planned as Chiranjeevi’s 154th film. It was launched that November. Chiranjeevi let slip the title Waltair Veerayya in April 2022, and it was officially confirmed that October. Ravindra wrote the story, and Kona Venkat and K. Chakravarthy Reddy scripted the dialogue. Ravi Teja joined in March 2022, reuniting with Chiranjeevi 22 years after Annayya. Bobby Simha was cast as the antagonist after Nawazuddin Siddiqui could not fit in the schedule. Filming began in Hyderabad in December 2021, then moved to Visakhapatnam, Malaysia and France before wrapping in mid-December 2022. Arthur A. Wilson, on his third film with Bobby after Power, shot the film, and Niranjan Devaramane edited it.
Music
Devi Sri Prasad composed the score and songs, and Sony Music India acquired the audio rights. Five singles were released between November 2022 and January 2023, including “Boss Party”, “Poonakaalu Loading” and the title song.
Release
The film came out in Telugu and in a Hindi dubbed version on 13 January 2023. According to the source, its worldwide theatrical rights were sold for ₹94 crore. Netflix began streaming it on 27 February 2023, and Gemini TV holds the satellite rights.
Reception and box office
Reviews were mixed. Several critics enjoyed it as a celebration of Chiranjeevi’s classic mass persona and praised the action scenes. Others found it predictable, uneven in tone, or too focused on honouring the star. According to the source, it grossed ₹236.15 crore worldwide. It also became Chiranjeevi’s third film to pass the US$2 million mark in the United States.
