Falaknuma Das

Falaknuma Das is a 2019 Indian Telugu-language action crime film written and directed by Vishwak Sen in his directing debut. A remake of the 2017 Malayalam film Angamaly Diaries, it was produced by his father, Karate Raju, under Vanmaye Creations with several partners, and presented by D. Suresh Babu. Vishwak Sen stars alongside Saloni Mishra, Harshita Gaur, Prashanthi Charuolingah, Uttej, Jeevan Kumar and Tharun Bhascker. Released on 31 May 2019 to mixed-to-positive reviews, it was, according to the source, a commercial success.

Story

The film is about the fate awaiting a man with uncontrollable aggression. Das, a young man from Falaknuma in Hyderabad’s Old City, lives with his widowed mother and sister and spends his time with a gang of childhood friends. The friends idolise two local goons. When one of them is murdered, Das and his gang are pulled further into a world of violence.

Reception

Reviews were mixed. Firstpost compared it to a mutton biryani whose aroma knocks you out until the charm wears off. The Times of India felt its narrative lacked structure but noted flashes of subtle humour. The News Minute called it a realistic crime drama about a mindless, toxic bunch of men forever courting trouble. The Hindu praised its gritty story, native narrative and strong performances.
