HIT: The Second Case (often called HIT 2) is a 2022 Telugu crime thriller written and directed by Sailesh Kolanu and produced by Wall Poster Cinema, the banner presented by actor Nani. The second film in the HIT series after HIT: The First Case (2020), it stars Adivi Sesh as a police officer in Andhra Pradesh’s Homicide Intervention Team, with Meenakshi Chaudhary, Suhas and Rao Ramesh. Released on 2 December 2022, it received positive reviews and was a commercial success. It has streamed on Prime Video since 6 January 2023, and a standalone sequel, HIT: The Third Case, followed on 1 May 2025.

What the story is about

In Visakhapatnam, Krishna Dev, known as KD, is a sharp, intuitive Superintendent of Police with the Homicide Intervention Team, living with his partner Aarya, an entrepreneur and women’s rights activist. He is handed a horrifying case: the body of a young bar worker has been found dismembered and stitched together with parts from three different women. As KD follows forensic clues, political pressure mounts, an innocent suspect is nearly killed, and the killer begins to taunt him directly. This is a whodunit, so we stop well short of the answer.

Cast

  • Adivi Sesh as SP Krishna Dev “KD”
  • Meenakshi Chaudhary as Aarya
  • Suhas in a key role
  • Rao Ramesh as DGP Nageswara Rao and Komalee Prasad as ASP Varsha
  • Tanikella Bharani, Posani Krishna Murali, Srikanth Iyengar and Brahmaji in supporting roles; Nani in a cameo

How it was made

Nani announced the sequel in February 2021, a year after the first film, as The Indian Express reported, with Sailesh Kolanu returning as director. Adivi Sesh replaced Vishwak Sen as the lead because Nani wanted the franchise to be “concept oriented” rather than “star oriented”, and the setting moved from Telangana to Andhra Pradesh. The film was launched in March 2021 and shooting began in August 2021 in Visakhapatnam, with more filming in Hyderabad and a final schedule in August 2022.

Music

The songs were composed by M. M. Srilekha and Suresh Bobbili, and John Stewart Eduri composed the background score.

Release and box office

First scheduled for 29 July 2022, the film was postponed because of Adivi Sesh’s promotions for Major and production delays; Cinema Express reported the new date in September 2022. It received an A certificate for its gore and language and opened on 2 December 2022. The Times of India reported that it became the biggest opener of Adivi Sesh’s career. A Hindi-dubbed version followed in cinemas on 30 December 2022.

What critics said

Balakrishna Ganeshan of The News Minute (3.5 out of 5) called it “one of the best-written Telugu films in recent times”. Manoj Kumar R of The Indian Express (2.5 out of 5) saw “a significant improvement over the first iteration”, and Neeshita Nyayapati of The Times of India (2.5 out of 5) said it “delivers what it promises when it comes to the gore”. India Today (2.5 out of 5) found it “a middling thriller”, while Sakshi Post called it a “gripping thriller”.
