Krishna Bhagavaan (born Meenavalli Paparao Chowdary on 2 July 1965) is an Indian actor in Telugu cinema. He has appeared in more than 350 films, mostly as a comedian, and is also a writer. He later played lead roles in comedies such as John Appa Rao 40 Plus and Mr. Girisham.
Early life
He was born in Kaikavolu, a small village in East Godavari district, and went to Gandhi Memorial School in Pedapudi, crossing farms and a small canal to get there. He loved acting as a child and performed in school plays.
Stage and early films
His first professional play was Pending File, in which he played Parandhamayya and famously forgot all his lines on stage. He then moved to Chennai to try films. He was picked from about 300 people in a screen test for Kranti Kumar, but that film stopped when the producer died. He went on to act in Vamsy‘s Maharshi, produced by Sravanthi Ravi Kishore, and in Vamsy’s April 1st Vidudala.
Breakthrough
His acting career stalled until he played Babji in the television serial Vasantha Kokila, directed by Uppalapati Narayana Rao. The role won him an Andhra Pradesh State Nandi Award. He then acted in films such as Avunu Valliddaru Ista Paddaru! and Kabaddi Kabaddi.
Lead roles and writing
Once he became a popular comedian, he was offered solo leads in films such as John Appa Rao 40 Plus, Donga Sachinollu, Mr. Girisham, Andhra Andagadu and Bommana Brothers Chandana Sisters.
Writing
He has also worked on the scripts of a few films, including Detective Narada.
