Current Theega (transl. Electric Wire) is a 2014 Indian Telugu-language romantic action comedy directed by G. Nageswara Reddy and produced by Vishnu Manchu under 24 Frames Factory. It stars Manchu Manoj, Rakul Preet Singh and Jagapathi Babu. A remake of the 2013 Tamil film Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam, it was released on 31 October 2014 and, like the original, was a commercial success.

Story

Siva Rama Raju, a respected man in the village of Parvatipuram, has vowed that none of his three daughters will marry for love. He has sworn to punish any man who tries to elope with one of them. Raju, a wayward young man, is in love with Sunny, an English teacher at the junior college, and uses her student Kavita, Siva Rama Raju’s youngest daughter, to carry his messages. Along the way Raju and Kavita fall for each other, and the story follows what happens when they want to marry.

Production

Suresh Kondeti had acquired the remake rights to Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam by October 2013. Satish Mutyala was the cinematographer and S. R. Shekhar the editor.

Music

Achu Rajamani composed seven songs and a theme. Manchu Manoj sang a situational break-up song for the climax at the suggestion of the director and composer. It was released on 9 September 2014 and spread quickly online. Chinmayi sang “Padahaarellainaa”. The Times of India gave the album 3.5 out of 5, and Milliblog singled out Chinmayi’s song as the highlight while finding the rest a step down for the composer. The soundtrack topped the charts.

Release

The Central Board of Film Certification gave the film an A certificate because of a bold special number featuring Sunny Leone. It was released on 31 October 2014 and was later dubbed into Hindi as Don Ki Jung.

Box office

Like the Tamil original, Current Theega was a commercial success.
