Aadavaallu Meeku Johaarlu (meaning “Salutations to you, ladies”) is a 2022 Telugu-language romantic comedy drama written and directed by Kishore Tirumala and produced by SLV Cinemas. It stars Sharwanand and Rashmika Mandanna, with Khushbu Sundar, Radhika Sarathkumar and Urvashi. Released on 4 March 2022 to mixed reviews, it was a commercial failure.

Story

Chiranjeevi has grown up surrounded by five strong-willed women: his mother and his four aunts. They adore him, but they find fault with almost every prospective bride he meets, and the film follows his search for a partner all five will approve of. When the right girl, Aadhya, appears, winning over the family proves harder still. The second half is loosely inspired by the 1999 Tamil film Minsara Kanna, particularly in Khushbu Sundar’s role as a businesswoman with a strong prejudice against men.

Cast

  • Sharwanand and Rashmika Mandanna in the lead roles
  • Khushbu Sundar, as a businesswoman wary of men
  • Radhika Sarathkumar and Urvashi

Production

Tirumala first planned the film in 2016 with Venkatesh and Nithya Menen, but it stalled while he reworked the script. It was revived with Sharwanand, his first film with the director, and launched on 25 October 2020; Nithya Menen and Sai Pallavi were considered before Rashmika Mandanna was cast, and the three veteran actresses joined in August 2021. Filming ran from 20 July 2021 to February 2022, mostly in Rajahmundry and Hyderabad. Sujith Sarang was the cinematographer and A. Sreekar Prasad the editor.

Music

Devi Sri Prasad, Tirumala’s regular composer, wrote the score and songs. The title song, sung by Devi Sri Prasad with lyrics by Sri Mani, was released as the first single on 4 February 2022.

Release and box office

The release was pushed back a week to 4 March 2022 to avoid clashing with Bheemla Nayak, and SonyLIV acquired the streaming rights. The Hans India called it a feel-good family drama, but The Times of India found the story paper-thin, and The Hindu felt it slid into melodrama. According to the source it earned a distributor’s share of ₹7.72 crore and lost about ₹8 crore.
