Lakshmi’s NTR is a 2019 Indian Telugu-language biographical drama co-directed by Ram Gopal Varma and Agasthya Manju. It covers the last years of N. T. Rama Rao, the former actor and Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh, largely from the perspective of his second wife, Lakshmi Parvathi. It was released on 29 March 2019 in Telangana and later in Andhra Pradesh, after a legal battle over its release.

Production
On 4 July 2017, Varma announced on YouTube that he would make an NTR biopic titled RGV’s NTR, with Nandamuri Balakrishna expected to be involved. Because of differences between the two, they ended up making separate films about NTR, and Varma’s was retitled Lakshmi’s NTR. Kalyani Malik composed the music, released on the Mango Music label.
Marketing
The first song, “Vennupotu” (Backstabbing), released on 21 December 2018, stirred controversy. A Telugu Desam Party MLA filed a case saying it targeted the then Chief Minister, and the High Court issued notices to the censor board and the producer. A second song, “Enduku”, followed in January 2019. The trailer was released on 14 February 2019.
Release
The film was first scheduled for 22 March 2019. Petitions to stop its release during the election period reached the Telangana High Court, which ruled that everyone has the right to express their views and allowed it to proceed. It opened on 29 March 2019 in Telangana and on 1 June in Andhra Pradesh, with Weekend Cinema handling the overseas release.
Reception
Cinema Express gave it 3 out of 5 and found it an interesting look at unexplored events in NTR’s life. Firstpost and The Times of India gave it 2.5, saying an important story did not make for a good film. Sify, also at 2.5, called it fairly faithful to the political events of 1989–1996 but one-sided in its portrayal of the key figures. The Indian Express gave it 1 out of 5.
