Tuneega Tuneega is a 2012 Indian Telugu-language romantic drama written and directed by M. S. Raju and produced by Maganti Ramji under Padmini Arts. It introduced Raju’s son, Sumanth Ashwin, opposite Rhea Chakraborty. Distributed by Dil Raju’s Sri Venkateswara Creations, it was released worldwide on 20 July 2012.
Story
Businessman Ravindra Babu and his cook, “Madurai” Ramaswamy, are childhood friends who live together. Their children, Karthik and Nidhi, grow up hating each other and playing pranks on one another until Nidhi is sent abroad to study. Years later they meet again at a family function and fall in love. Nidhi’s family, however, wants her to marry someone else.
Development
Reports of Sumanth Ashwin’s debut had circulated since 2007. M. S. Raju considered him for Vaana but felt that role needed an experienced actor, and a debut film directed by Teja was announced in December 2007. In January 2011, after V. N. Aditya left the project, Raju took over as director. The title comes from a song in Manasantha Nuvve, which Raju had also produced.
Music
Karthik Raja composed the eight-song soundtrack, his first Telugu film, with lyrics by Krishna Chaitanya and Sirivennela Seetharama Sastry. Aditya Music released it at Lalitha Kala Thoranam in Hyderabad on 10 June 2012. One music reviewer called it fresh and different from his usual sound.
Reception
The Times of India gave it two and a half stars out of five, finding it lacking in freshness. The Hindu felt the story and screenplay were confused. Deccan Herald praised Gopal Reddy’s cinematography as the saving grace of a predictable film, and IANS said it felt like a film from the 1970s or 1980s.
Awards
Sumanth Ashwin won the CineMAA Award for Best Male Debut in 2013.
