Gundello Godari is a 2013 Indian Telugu-language adventure drama directed by Kumar Nagendra and produced by Lakshmi Manchu. It stars Aadhi Pinisetty, Taapsee Pannu, Lakshmi Manchu and Sundeep Kishan. It is loosely based on BVS Rama Rao’s novel Godavari Kathalu. Released on 8 March 2013 to positive reviews, it did well at the box office and was shown at the Daring Independent Film Festival in Toronto.
Story
In 1986, in Bangarappeta village near Rajahmundry, newlyweds Malli and Chitra are caught in a devastating Godavari flood. Losing hope of survival, they find something to hold on to and begin telling each other the darkest moments of their lives. Malli, an honest fisherman who dreams of owning his own boat, goes first, and his story involves Sarala, his employer’s daughter. The film follows four people’s lives during the 1986 floods.

Production and music
The project was first reported in January 2011 as Lakshmi Manchu’s first film as a protagonist. Shooting began in Rajahmundry in January 2012 on an eco-friendly set of 120 huts and houses spread over 27 acres. Ilaiyaraaja composed the music, recording songs on a trip to Munnar. He attended the audio launch on 18 October 2012 at a village set in Hyderabad, where Mohan Babu honoured him. The film was dubbed into Tamil as Maranthen Mannithen.
Reception
The Hindu found it a film about two people sharing their secrets and discovering love, worth a watch for Ilaiyaraaja’s music alone. The Times of India and Deccan Chronicle praised its storytelling and simplicity.
Box office and awards
It opened to 75–90% occupancy and, according to the source, collected ₹5 crore in its opening weekend. Lakshmi Manchu won the Filmfare and SIIMA awards for Best Supporting Actress – Telugu.
