Akhanda 2: Thaandavam is a 2025 Indian Telugu-language fantasy action drama written and directed by Boyapati Srinu. It is a sequel to Akhanda (2021). Nandamuri Balakrishna returns in a dual role, alongside Aadhi Pinisetty, Samyuktha and Harshaali Malhotra. It was released on 12 December 2025 to mixed-to-negative reviews and, according to the source, was a box-office failure.

Story

After the events of the first film, an NIA officer reports on Akhanda’s methods. His superior brands Akhanda a criminal and vows to catch him, and the officer resigns rather than act against him. Meanwhile, Akhanda continues restoring temples and returns to his home region. There his old teacher tells him about a rare and extremely powerful spiritual practice, the “Ashta Siddhi” sadhana.

Development and casting

After the success of Akhanda, Boyapati confirmed a sequel in early 2024. It was first announced as BB4, marking his fourth film with Balakrishna. Samyuktha was announced as the female lead on 25 January 2025 and Aadhi Pinisetty as the antagonist on 2 February 2025. Harshaali Malhotra joined in July 2025 for her Telugu debut. Production designer A. S. Prakash worked on his fifth Boyapati film.

Filming

The film was launched with a muhurtham shot in Hyderabad on 16 October 2024. Major schedules followed in Hyderabad, the Himalayas and at the Kumbh Mela, with key scenes filmed in Georgia in mid-2025. Shooting wrapped in Thiruvannamalai in early August 2025, and Balakrishna finished dubbing on 29 August. C. Ramprasad was the cinematographer and Tammiraju the editor.

Music and release

Thaman S composed the music. The singles “The Thaandavam” and “Jajikaaya Jajikaaya” came out in November 2025, and the teaser was released on Balakrishna’s birthday. A planned 5 December release was stayed by the Madras High Court over a financial dispute between Eros International and 14 Reels Plus. After the dues were cleared, the film opened on 12 December 2025, and it began streaming on Netflix on 9 January 2026.

Reception

Reviews were largely negative. India Today gave it 2.5 out of 5 and said it delivered exactly the loud, devotional spectacle it promised. Telugucinema.com and Sakshi Post praised Balakrishna and Thaman’s music but found the writing weak and the film lacking emotional connection. A third film, Jai Akhanda, was teased.
