Super Over is a 2021 Telugu crime thriller written and directed by Praveen Varma and produced by Sudheer Varma through SAS Pictures, about three childhood friends caught up in cricket betting. Naveen Chandra, Chandini Chowdary and Rakendu Mouli play the friends, with Ajay and Praveen, and music by Sunny M. R. It premiered directly on Aha on 22 January 2021.
What the story is about
Kaasi, Madhu and Vasu have been friends since childhood. Kaasi wants to go abroad, but a travel consultant cheats him, leaving him with a debt secured against his house. Desperate for money, he starts betting on cricket matches and wins ₹1.7 crore. The film, set largely over one night, is about whether he can actually collect his winnings, and what it costs him and his two friends to try.

Reviews
Sangeetha Devi of The Hindu felt it did not tap its potential as an edge-of-the-seat thriller but was “a reasonably packaged thriller”. Rentala Jayadeva of Sakshi praised the novelty of its screenplay and direction, as well as the performances. Bhuvanesh Chandar of The New Indian Express felt it slowed as it went on and found its cliff-hanger ending unsatisfying: “Super overs are meant to yield a final result.” Vishal Menon of Film Companion advised viewers to “look past a long initial stretch of amateur writing” for “a nighttime thriller that’s surprisingly engaging”.
