Dohchay (transl. Steal) is a 2015 Indian Telugu-language crime comedy written and directed by Sudheer Varma and produced by B. V. S. N. Prasad under Sri Venkateswara Cine Chitra. It stars Naga Chaitanya and Kriti Sanon, with Brahmanandam, Ravi Babu, Posani Krishna Murali and Pooja Ramachandran in supporting roles. It was released on 24 April 2015.
Story
Two masked robbers pull off an armed bank heist and then fall out over whether to hand the money to their boss. Chandu is a small-time, good-hearted con man who swindles people to pay for his sister’s medical studies. He works hand in glove with a corrupt police inspector who takes a cut in return for protection.
Development
After his debut hit Swamy Ra Ra, Sudheer Varma said he wanted to direct a star next, and reports soon linked him with Naga Chaitanya. The project was confirmed in June 2014, with the Swamy Ra Ra technical crew returning, and it was launched at the Film Nagar temple on 12 June 2014. Working titles such as Mayagadu were floated before Chaitanya confirmed the title Dohchay on 17 February 2015.
Casting
Naga Chaitanya played a sharp-witted con man and sported a new hairstyle. He described the film as a mix of con drama and action. Kriti Sanon was cast in May 2014 after a photo shoot with him and said she liked the script’s young, modern style. Rao Ramesh also joined the cast, and Madhuurima appeared in a special song.
Filming
Shooting began in Hyderabad on 14 July 2014, with action scenes at an aluminium factory and the climax shot on 8 November 2014. A song with the leads was filmed in Thailand in March 2015.
Music and release
Sunny M.R. composed the music. The film opened on 24 April 2015, and its streaming rights went to ZEE5.
