Thammudu (transl. Younger Brother) is a 2025 Indian Telugu-language survival action drama written and directed by Venu Sriram and produced by Dil Raju and Sireesh under Sri Venkateswara Creations. It stars Nithiin, Laya, Sapthami Gowda and Varsha Bollamma, with Saurabh Sachdeva and Swasika in supporting roles. Released on 4 July 2025 to mixed-to-negative reviews, it was, according to the source, a box-office disaster.

Story

Jai is a skilled archer aiming for gold at the 2025 Archery World Cup, but his coach is unhappy with his form. With the help of Chitra, his best friend and constant support, Jai realises that his problem lies in an old emotional wound: his separation as a child from his elder sister, Snehalata, who was like a mother to him. Twenty years earlier, she had left home to keep a promise to the man she loved, against their father’s wishes.

Production

The film was another collaboration between Sri Venkateswara Creations and Nithiin. It was shot extensively in Visakhapatnam and Maredumilli in Andhra Pradesh. K. V. Guhan, Sameer Reddy and Satyajit Pande handled the cinematography, and Prawin Pudi edited it.

Music

B. Ajaneesh Loknath composed the songs and background score, and the soundtrack was released through T-Series.

Release

The film opened on 4 July 2025 with an A certificate because of intense violence. Dil Raju said the censor board suggested cuts for a U/A rating, but the makers refused, feeling the cuts would weaken the film. It began streaming on Netflix on 1 August 2025 and on JioHotstar on 12 September 2025.

Reception

Critics praised Nithiin’s performance, the background score and the action, but criticised the screenplay and the lack of emotional depth. The Hindu called it an endurance test rather than an immersive film, and Deccan Chronicle gave it 1 out of 5. The Hollywood Reporter India called it a misfire, and India Today said it lost its core in random action scenes.
