Odela 2 is a 2025 Indian Telugu-language supernatural thriller directed by Ashok Teja and written by Sampath Nandi, who co-produced it with D. Madhu. It stars Tamannaah Bhatia, Hebah Patel and Vasishta N. Simha. A sequel to Odela Railway Station (2022), it portrays how the deity Odela Mallanna Swamy protects his village from evil. Released on 17 April 2025, it drew mixed-to-negative reviews and, according to the source, underperformed at the box office.
Story
In the village of Odela in Telangana, the villagers refuse to cremate the body of an executed criminal and instead seal it away. The improper burial denies his soul release, and he returns as a vengeful spirit to terrorise the village. The film follows the battle between that evil and the divine forces protecting Odela.
Production
Sampath Nandi announced the sequel in March 2024 as his second film with Ashok Teja. Tamannaah Bhatia was cast in the lead, and Hebah Patel and Vasishta N. Simha returned from the first film. Murali Sharma and Srikanth Iyengar were among the supporting cast. Shooting began in Varanasi on 1 March 2024. A major action sequence with Tamannaah, who trained intensively for it, was filmed in Hyderabad. The climax was shot on a replica of the Odela Mallanna temple at Ramoji Film City with 800 junior artists. Filming wrapped in October 2024, and the film received an A certificate for its supernatural and violent content.
Music and marketing
B. Ajaneesh Loknath, known for Kantara, composed a score drawing on Telugu folk and devotional elements. The teaser was launched at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj on 22 February 2025.
Release
The film opened on 17 April 2025 and began streaming on Amazon Prime Video on 8 May 2025.
Reception
Critics generally praised Tamannaah’s committed performance and the visuals but faulted the script and pacing. Several also found the violence excessive. The Times of India gave it two and a half out of five. The Indian Express said the shaky sequel needed more sensitivity, and The Hindu said even Tamannaah could not save an outdated story.
