Mr. Bachchan (మిస్టర్ బచ్చన్) is a 2024 Telugu action drama directed by Harish Shankar and produced by T. G. Vishwa Prasad and Vivek Kuchibotla (People Media Factory) with T-Series Films and Panorama Studios. Ravi Teja plays the title role, with Jagapathi Babu as the villain and Bhagyashri Borse in her Telugu debut. It is the official remake of the Hindi film Raid (2018), which was based on a real income tax raid. The film released on 15 August 2024 and has been on Netflix since 12 September 2024.

What the story is about

Anand, an income tax officer nicknamed “Mr. Bachchan” for his love of Amitabh Bachchan, is suspended after standing up to an influential man. Back in his hometown he falls for Jikki, a young Marwari woman, and the two plan to marry. Then his suspension is lifted and he is put in charge of a raid on the mansion of Mutyam Jaggayya, a powerful MP suspected of hiding a fortune, who is confident the officers will find nothing and uses every bit of his influence to stop them.

Release, box office and reception

Mr. Bachchan opened on 15 August 2024. Our record lists a running time of 160 minutes; TMDB lists a UA certificate. After a poor response the film was trimmed by 13 minutes, and it ended as a box-office disaster (The Siasat Daily). Wikipedia puts its budget at ₹70 crore. Critics were harsh: Times Now gave it 2 out of 5, The Indian Express and Cinema Express 1.5/5 and Deccan Chronicle 1/5, while The Hindu called it a meandering mess but praised the songs.
