The RajaSaab (titled on screen as Prabhas’s The RajaSaab) is a 2026 Indian Telugu-language fantasy horror comedy written and directed by Maruthi. It was produced by People Media Factory and IVY Entertainment. Prabhas leads a cast that includes Sanjay Dutt, Nidhhi Agerwal, Malavika Mohanan in her Telugu debut, Riddhi Kumar and Zarina Wahab. It was released for Sankranti on 9 January 2026. Critics were largely negative, and the film was a box-office failure.
Story
RajaSaab looks after his grandmother Gangamma, who has Alzheimer’s but still remembers her husband Kanakaraju, an exorcist thought to be living in exile. RajaSaab sets out to find his grandfather. Along the way he falls for Bessy, a devout nun, and is joined by Bhairavi, a thief’s granddaughter. Their search eventually leads them to a notorious haunted mansion with a sinister presence.
Development and casting
Maruthi pitched the horror-comedy script to Prabhas in 2022. Prabhas agreed and shot it alongside his other projects, Salaar and Kalki 2898 AD. It was the first time the two had worked together. The project was first called Raja Deluxe and was to be made by DVV Entertainment before it moved to People Media Factory. The title The Raja Saab was announced for Sankranti in January 2024. Malavika Mohanan, Nidhhi Agerwal and Riddhi Kumar were signed as the three female leads, and Nayanthara was brought in for a special song. Sanjay Dutt and Boman Irani joined later in important roles.
Filming
Shooting began in October 2022 on a set at the Aluminium Factory near Gachibowli, Hyderabad, and moved on to Kanchipuram. After Prabhas finished Kalki 2898 AD, the team filmed without a break for about five months. According to the source, the film used the largest indoor set ever built in India, covering 41,256 square feet. Designed by art director Rajeevan Nambiar, it was built in Aziznagar, near Hyderabad, as a full-scale haveli with many rooms, and the climax was shot entirely there. Post-production included nearly 300 days of visual effects work. A song was filmed in Greece in October 2025, and filming wrapped by November 2025.
Music
Thaman S composed the soundtrack, his first film with Prabhas and his third with Maruthi. T-Series acquired the music rights. Four singles came out between November 2025 and January 2026. One of them, “Nache Nache”, is a remake of “Auva Auva Koi Yahan Nache Nache” from Disco Dancer.
Release
After planned dates in April and December 2025 fell through because of post-production delays, the film was released worldwide on 9 January 2026 in Telugu, with dubbed versions in Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam. According to the source, JioHotstar paid ₹160 crore for the streaming rights and began streaming it on 6 February 2026.
Reception and box office
Reviews were negative. Critics mainly faulted the screenplay, the runtime and the uneven storytelling, though some noted a promising premise and Prabhas’s occasional comic timing. According to the source, the film opened with ₹100.9 crore worldwide and ended its run at ₹208.38 crore, and it was considered a box-office failure. A sequel, RajaSaab 2: Circus 1935, was announced in the end credits.
