Nakshatram (English: Star) is a 2017 Indian Telugu-language police action drama written and directed by Krishna Vamsi, his 20th film as director. It was produced by K. Srinivasulu, S. Venugopal and Sajju. The leads are Sundeep Kishan, Tanish, Regina Cassandra, Pragya Jaiswal and Prakash Raj. J. D. Chakravarthy and Sivaji Raja play supporting roles, and Sai Dharam Tej has an extended special appearance. It was released on 4 August 2017 to negative reviews.
Story
Rama Rao comes from a family of policemen and dreams of becoming a sub-inspector to carry on the family tradition. When a quarrel with the commissioner’s wayward son costs him his chance at the police exam, he puts on a uniform anyway and starts doing police work on his own. Meanwhile, after a deadly bomb blast in Hyderabad, the police commissioner vows to rid the city of terrorism. Rama Rao’s unofficial beat soon pulls him into that larger case.
Cast
- Sundeep Kishan as Rama Rao
- Prakash Raj as Parasuramaiah IPS, the commissioner of Hyderabad
- Sai Dharam Tej as Alexander IPS
- Tanish as Rahul, the commissioner’s son
- Pragya Jaiswal as Kiran Reddy
- Sivaji Raja as Sitharaman, a former constable
- Regina Cassandra and J. D. Chakravarthy
Music
Bheems Ceciroleo composed the music, released by Aditya Music.
Release
The film was released on 4 August 2017 and was later dubbed into Hindi as Mass Masala.
Reception
Reviews were negative. The Hindu found its 166 minutes of gunfire, shouting and loud music exhausting. The Times of India saw it as Krishna Vamsi’s tribute to the police, but felt that apart from the hero’s ambition and characterisation, the drama felt overly familiar.
