Game Changer is a 2025 Telugu-language political action drama directed by Shankar, marking his first film in Telugu. Produced by Dil Raju under Sri Venkateswara Creations, it stars Ram Charan in a dual role, alongside Kiara Advani, Anjali, S. J. Suryah, Srikanth, Sunil, Jayaram and Samuthirakani. The film was released for Sankranthi in January 2025 but became a major box-office failure.
Story
Ram Nandan passes the UPSC examination and is appointed District Magistrate of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. Even before he takes up the post, he is attacked by men sent by an old college rival who now runs illegal sand mining under the protection of Bobbili Mopidevi, a minister and the ambitious son of the state’s Chief Minister, Bobbili Sathyamoorthy.
Once in office, Ram gives the district’s wrongdoers a chance to stop. When they laugh at him, he starts raiding their operations and exposes food adulteration and illegal construction. Flashbacks show that Ram once studied medicine but had a fierce temper whenever he saw injustice, and that it was Deepika, the woman he loved, who pushed him towards the civil services. His campaign against corruption puts him on a collision course with Mopidevi, and a secret from the state’s political past gradually comes to the surface. The film’s later turns are best left unspoiled.
Cast
Ram Charan plays two roles in the film. The rest of the principal cast is made up of Kiara Advani, Anjali, S. J. Suryah, Srikanth, Sunil, Jayaram and Samuthirakani.
Production
The film was officially announced in February 2021, and its title was revealed in March 2023. Principal photography started in October 2021 but was held up by several delays and did not wrap until July 2024. Shooting took place at a range of locations in India and abroad, including Japan, China, Malaysia, Cambodia and New Zealand.
Tirru was the cinematographer, and Shameer Muhammed and Ruben handled the editing.
Music
Thaman S composed the songs and the original score.
Release
Game Changer opened in cinemas on 10 January 2025, timed to coincide with the festival of Sankranthi.
Reception and box office
Critics gave the film mixed to negative reviews. Its release was also followed by a controversy over its reported collections: according to the source, trade analysts and viewers criticised the opening-day collection poster, which was accused of overstating the film’s earnings by ₹100 crore compared with the actual figures. The film went on to become a major box-office failure.

- Times Now (Sashidhar Adivi) called it a quintessential masala entertainer whose screenwriting could have been better.
- The Hindu (Sangeetha Devi Dundoo) called Ram Charan's turn as Appanna his best since Rangasthalam, but felt the hasty narrative leaves little room for emotional weight.
- The Indian Express (Avinash Ramachandran) described nice segments stitched together that become incoherent for lack of focus.
