Raja the Great is a 2017 Telugu action comedy written and directed by Anil Ravipudi and produced by Dil Raju under Sri Venkateswara Creations. Ravi Teja plays a man who was born blind, alongside Mehreen Pirzada and Raadhika Sarathkumar. It was released worldwide on 18 October 2017, on the eve of Deepavali.

What the story is about

Lucky, the pampered daughter of a police officer, is in hiding in Darjeeling after a gangster, Devaraj, swears revenge for his brother’s death in a police operation. Meanwhile Anantha Lakshmi, a head constable, has trained her blind son Raja to turn his heightened senses to his advantage and dreams of seeing him in the police. She persuades the officers to include him in the team assigned to protect Lucky, and Raja, fighting by sound and instinct, takes on Devaraj’s men.

Cast and crew

Sai Karthik composed the music. Filming began in April 2017 in Hyderabad and Darjeeling. Ravi Teja’s son Mahadhan appears as a child actor.

What critics said

Reviews were mixed. Firstpost rated it 2.5/5 as an “okayish entertaining affair”, The Hindu found “silly humour” in a mass film with a blind hero, and The Indian Express gave 2 stars, judging it by the standards of mindless entertainers, according to Wikipedia. Telugu360 rated it 2.75/5, calling it a farcical comedy carried by Ravi Teja’s image, with a strong 20 minutes after the interval. Wikipedia records it as a commercial success. Anil Ravipudi has said the end titles tease a possible sequel.
