Agent is a 2023 Telugu spy action thriller directed by Surender Reddy from a story by Vakkantham Vamsi, produced under AK Entertainments and Surender 2 Cinema. Akhil Akkineni and Mammootty play the leads, with Dino Morea, Sakshi Vaidya and Varalaxmi Sarathkumar. It was released on 28 April 2023 and has been streaming on SonyLIV since March 2025.
What the story is about
Ramakrishna, known as Ricky or “Wild Saala”, is a hot-headed young man obsessed with becoming a RAW agent despite repeated rejections. Impressed by his nerve, RAW chief Colonel Mahadev hands him a risky assignment: go undercover and get close to Dharma, a former agent who has gone rogue and is linked to a terror syndicate. Cinema Express sums it up as a hunt for a rogue agent, played by Dino Morea, staged with high-octane action.

Hiphop Tamizha composed the music, replacing Thaman S. in September 2021. The film was announced in September 2020 as Akhil 5, and filming took place in Hyderabad, Budapest, Visakhapatnam and Manali. Its release, first planned for December 2021, was put off several times because of the COVID-19 pandemic and production delays.
What critics said
Reviews were largely negative. The Times of India gave it 2/5, calling it “a spy thriller that commits the blasphemy of being boring”, and India Today also gave 2/5, while OTTplay was kinder at 3/5, praising the action choreography, according to Wikipedia. Wikipedia records it as a major commercial disappointment, after which the producer and Akhil publicly apologised to audiences.
