Kick 2 is a 2015 Indian Telugu-language action comedy directed by Surender Reddy from a story by Vakkantham Vamsi and produced by Nandamuri Kalyan Ram under N. T. R. Arts. A sequel to Kick (2009), it stars Ravi Teja in a dual role as father and son, with Rakul Preet Singh, Shaam, Ravi Kishan, Kabir Duhan Singh, Brahmanandam and Rajpal Yadav. Released on 21 August 2015, it performed poorly. According to the source, it grossed ₹43.5 crore on a ₹30 crore budget.
Story
Kalyan, the hero of the first film, has married Naina and settled in Virginia. Their son, Robin Hood, is his opposite: a young man who looks for comfort in every part of life. Robin moves to Hyderabad to recover a plot of family land seized by a local strongman, Settlement Durga, and starts making life miserable for the astrologer behind the land grab. Chaitra, an aspiring writer, falls for him.
Development and casting
After Race Gurram, Reddy announced the sequel in March 2014, and Ravi Teja joined after finishing Power. The film was launched in Hyderabad on 20 August 2014, with N. T. Rama Rao Jr. and Allu Arjun as chief guests. Tamannaah turned down the heroine’s role for lack of dates, and Rakul Preet Singh was confirmed in September 2014. Rajpal Yadav made his Telugu debut, and Kabir Duhan Singh plays Ravi Kishan’s son.
Filming
A Rajasthan village set was built near Rajendra Nagar on the outskirts of Hyderabad, and at one point the unit shot for 66 hours straight. The film was later shot in Rajasthan, with the climax in Jaisalmer, and in Hampi. Two songs were filmed in Switzerland in March 2015. Ravi Teja lost 6 kilograms for a special part of his role.
Music
S. Thaman composed the music, and the audio was launched on 9 May 2015 with NTR Jr. as chief guest. The background score was mixed in Dolby Atmos.
Release
After visual effects work pushed back dates in May and July 2015, the film was finally released worldwide on 21 August 2015, and its box-office results were below average.
