Nenu Local

Nenu Local (meaning “I’m Local”) is a 2017 Telugu-language masala film directed by Trinadha Rao Nakkina, written by Prasanna Kumar Bezawada and produced by Dil Raju under Sri Venkateswara Creations. It stars Nani, Keerthy Suresh and Naveen Chandra, with Sachin Khedekar, Tulasi, Posani Krishna Murali, Easwari Rao and Rao Ramesh. Released on 3 February 2017 to mixed reviews, it was a major hit and Nani’s biggest solo success up to then.

Story

Babu is a carefree college graduate who scrapes through his exams and falls for his classmate Keerthy, who comes round to him after he helps a friend of hers. His happiness is cut short when he learns that she is engaged to a police sub-inspector, Siddhu, whom her father approved of. Keerthy challenges Babu to win her father over, and the rivalry between the two suitors grows serious.

Music and crew

Devi Sri Prasad composed the soundtrack, released on Aditya Music on 14 January 2017. Nizar Shafi was the cinematographer and Prawin Pudi the editor. A song from the film later gave its name to the 2018 film Next Enti?

Reception

Reviewers found it predictable but entertaining: 123telugu said young audiences would connect with Nani’s character, The Times of India credited his comic timing with holding the film together, and Idlebrain praised its entertainment and dialogue.

Box office and remakes

According to the source it grossed ₹24 crore worldwide in its opening weekend and went on to be declared a blockbuster, beating Bhale Bhale Magadivoy as Nani’s biggest solo success and becoming his third film to gross $1 million in the United States. It was dubbed into Tamil and Hindi and remade in Bengali as Total Dadagiri and in Odia as Local Toka Love Choka.
