Nivetha Pethuraj (born 30 November 1990) is an Indian actress who works in Tamil and Telugu films. She made her debut in the Tamil film Oru Naal Koothu (2016) and her Telugu debut in Mental Madhilo (2017). Her notable work includes Chitralahari (2019), Paagal, Das Ka Dhamki (2023) and the crime thriller series Paruvu.
Early life
Nivetha was born in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, and spent her early school years in Kovilpatti. At 11 she moved with her parents to Dubai, where she studied at Crescent English High School and lived for about ten years. She earned a management degree from Heriot-Watt University. In 2015 she was crowned Miss India UAE and finished in the top five at Miss India Worldwide.
Debut
In Oru Naal Koothu she played an IT professional opposite Dinesh, and reviewers called her debut engaging and impressive. In 2017 she appeared opposite Udhayanidhi Stalin in Podhuvaga Emmanasu Thangam, and then made her Telugu debut in Mental Madhilo, playing a straightforward young woman opposite Sree Vishnu. The film was a success, and Firstpost called hers one of the best performances of the year.
Growing career
In 2018 she played an army officer, Captain Swathi, alongside Jayam Ravi in the hit Tik Tik Tik, and a sub-inspector opposite Vijay Antony in Thimiru Pudichavan, where Cinema Express praised her handling of the Madras dialect and comedy.
Chitralahari
In 2019 she played a hard-nosed corporate executive alongside Sai Dharam Tej in the commercial success Chitralahari, and appeared in Sangathamizhan with Vijay Sethupathi.
Telugu films and Paruvu
She was part of Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo (2020) and appeared in Red (2021), directed by Kishore Tirumala, with Ram Pothineni and Amritha Aiyer. She starred with Vishwak Sen in Paagal and again in Das Ka Dhamki (2023), played the lead in Bloody Mary and made a special appearance in Virata Parvam (2022). In Tamil she appeared with Prabhudeva in Pon Manickavel (2021). Her performance in the ZEE5 crime thriller series Paruvu, which premiered in June 2024, was praised by critics.
