Brochevarevarura (transl. Who Shall Save the Day?) is a 2019 Indian Telugu-language crime comedy written and directed by Vivek Athreya and produced by Vijay Kumar Manyam under Manyam Productions. It stars Sree Vishnu, Nivetha Thomas, Nivetha Pethuraj and Satyadev, with Priyadarshi and Rahul Ramakrishna in supporting roles. Released on 28 June 2019, it was well reviewed and a major hit.

Story

Vishal, an assistant director about to make his first low-budget film, manages to get a meeting with Shalini, a famous actress, and narrates his script to her. His story is about Mithra, the daughter of a college principal, who falls in with three back-benchers known as the “R3” batch. According to reviews, the film plays out as a caper in which a high-stakes plan goes wrong through a chain of unlikely coincidences.

Cast

Sree Vishnu leads the film, in his second collaboration with the director after Mental Madhilo (2017). Satyadev plays the assistant director opposite Nivetha Pethuraj, and critics praised his mature performance. Nivetha Thomas also stars, with Priyadarshi and Rahul Ramakrishna in supporting roles.

Production

The film was launched in August 2018, and shooting began soon after. The first schedule was completed in Guntur in November 2018 before the unit moved to Tenali, and filming wrapped in early March 2019. Sai Sriram was the cinematographer and Ravi Teja Girijala the editor.

Music

Vivek Sagar composed the seven-song album, released by Aditya Music on 24 May 2019. Critics liked its mix of folksy street tunes and classical-contemporary sounds, and “Vagalaadi” became a crowd favourite. “Putukku Zara Zara” uses traditional lyrics from “Pannendu Metla Kinnera”.

Reception and remakes

Reviews were positive. The Times of India and The News Minute gave it 3 out of 5 and enjoyed its fresh, laid-back style. The Hindu called it a light-hearted story of friends worth the time and money. Cinema Express gave it 3.5 and called it well written and well rounded. It was remade in Kannada as Govinda Govinda (2021) and in Hindi as Velle (2021).
