Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo is a 2020 Telugu-language action drama written and directed by Trivikram Srinivas. The title translates as “there in Vaikuntapuram”. It stars Allu Arjun and Pooja Hegde, and was produced by Allu Aravind for Geetha Arts and S. Radha Krishna for Haarika & Hassine Creations. The story of a young man who learns he was switched at birth became one of the biggest Telugu hits of its time, and Thaman S won a National Film Award for its music.

Story

In 1995, two clerks, Valmiki and Ramachandra, start work at the same company. Ramachandra marries the owner’s daughter and becomes wealthy, while Valmiki stays middle class. When both men’s sons are born on the same day, Valmiki secretly swaps the babies so that his own child will grow up rich, and the one nurse who knows the truth is left in a coma after an accident.

Twenty-five years later, Ramachandra’s real son, Bantu, has grown up in Valmiki’s home, where he has spent his life being belittled by the man he believes is his father. Refused money for an MBA, he takes a job at a travel company run by Amulya, a self-made businesswoman, and falls for her. When the truth about his birth finally reaches him, Bantu finds a way into the grand family home, Vaikuntapuram, and begins quietly setting its troubles right. How much he reveals, and to whom, is left for the viewer to discover.
