Savyasachi (transl. Ambidextrous) is a 2018 Indian Telugu-language action thriller written and directed by Chandoo Mondeti and produced by Naveen Yerneni, C. V. Mohan and Y. Ravi Shankar under Mythri Movie Makers. It stars Naga Chaitanya, with R. Madhavan and Nidhhi Agerwal both making their Telugu debuts, and Bhumika Chawla. It drew mixed reviews and did not do well at the box office.

Story

Vikramaditya, or Vikram, is the only survivor of a bus accident that killed 21 people. He has vanishing twin syndrome, and his unseen twin, Aditya, controls his left hand. Vikram now works as an advertising director and reconnects with Chitra, his college sweetheart,.

Production and release

It was Mondeti’s second film with Naga Chaitanya after Premam. The film entered its final stage of shooting in July 2018 and finished post-production that September. Its release, first planned for March 2018, was pushed to June and then to November 2018.

Music

M. M. Keeravani composed the soundtrack, released by Lahari Music. “Ninnu Road Meedha” is a remix of the Nagarjuna hit “Ninnu Road Meeda” from Allari Alludu (1993).

Box office

According to the source, the film took a ₹3.29 crore share on its opening day in the Telugu states and grossed ₹16 crore worldwide over its first weekend. It did not perform well overall.

Reception and nominations

Firstpost and The Times of India gave it 2.5 out of 5. Both felt that an interesting premise was let down by the narrative, and India Today gave it 2 for weak writing. Madhavan was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the 66th Filmfare Awards South and for Best Actor in a Negative Role at SIIMA. Nidhhi Agerwal was nominated for Best Debut Actress at SIIMA.
